In the chess world, the attached pic is what is called a "smother mate". It is one of the few mates that is performed by a single piece, in this case the knight. But in this pic, the smother mate isn't as much about the skill of the white knight as it is the inability of black to get out of its own way.

It may not be any outside entity that causes our profits to drop, our enrollment to dwindle or our property value to decline. We often trap ourselves with co-workers who have no drive, teachers who are okay with just getting by, neighbors who fear change and bosses who have no vision. This is as true in the business world as it is on the block. "Smother mates" can close companies as quickly as they can take a life. Great leadership often requires us getting out of our own way.
