Teaching a class the other day, I continued to change the rules in the middle of games. Players were required to switch sides. They had to switch boards and pick up someone else's game. They had major pieces taken off in the middle of a game. They complained, they protested and they threw their hands up in frustration. Yet they were still required to play the game...and they did. Not one of them quit.
I heard the above quote listening to an elder answer the question of youth asking how to deal with prejudice in the business world. His answer, that quote, was direct and profound. Lose your money? Employees quit? Don't have a degree? Didn't get the job? Didn't grow up with a father? Been incarcerated? Physically handicapped? Spouse left you? Loved one passed away? Got a disease?
