Lessons from the 64 squares...
"If you see a good move... look for a better one."-Emmanuel Lasker
When teaching my chess classes, one of the things I encourage my students to concentrate on is perspective. There are times we can go "chess blind", where we are so locked into a move, that we fail to see better options. I've watched grandmasters miss a checkmate that the entire room saw due to chess blindness. So it is important to pull back and view the board in its entirety to make sure you're making the best move.
Don't get so caught up in your own limited thinking that you neglect the infinite possibilities surrounding you. Team members have ideas. Students have imaginative new ways to solve old problems. Spouses have child rearing techniques that may be more beneficial for your family. "My way or the highway" is an archaic mindset that has destroyed families and businesses. Leaders have to ultimately make the decisions. But great leadership considers wise council. The smartest of us surround ourselves with smarter people. Don't squander their talents feeding your ego. #NOTG #ChessInRealLife #Chess #Perspective #SeeTheWholeBoard #SeeTheBigPicture
