Sight vs. Vision

Luke: I don't believe it! Yoda: ...and that is why you fail.

Asked one of my students the other day could they imagine playing chess blindfolded. The look on their face said it all. "No way. I can't do that." After a brief conversation about belief, discipline and training, their response was more, "Well, if I worked at it, maybe I could." I realized then the issue wasn't so much about lack of confidence as it was lack of exposure. They had never HEARD of anyone playing blind chess so they couldn't conceive it.

Lack of exposure boxes us in. It binds us to complacency and bogs us down in mediocrity. Sure, this is seen in children who lack the resources to experience new things. But it also rears its head in CEOs who get stuck in their ways or teachers who fear trying new concepts. Stop limiting yourself. Step out into the unknown on occasion and test the waters of the new. Life is constantly evolving and those who do not believe they can evolve with it will ultimately fail. The first step in that? Thinking you can't. The solution? Believing you can. #NOTG #ChessInRealLife #ItStartsWithin#ReleaseTheFear #TryANewThing #NoLimits
