Lessons from the 64 squares...
"There is no short cut to achievement. Life requires thorough preparation - veneer isn't worth anything."-George Washington Carver
There's a young chess student who was eager to learn the game. The question was asked, "Do you want to become a good chess player?" Her response: "What's the easiest way to win?" A very telling answer.
Young players like this want to learn "chess traps", quick ways to capitalize on novice players. It's a fun and easy way to rack up wins. The problem arises when they play someone who knows the tricks and has learned the chess basics and techniques instead of tricks and gimmicks. Needless to say, after a few games where the traps were not effective, she was smart enough to come back to the drawing board and put in the work to become a good player.
In NOTG, we teach "Matrix Law" which (to paraphrase) states, "Learn the rules like a rookie so you can break them like a pro." Do not neglect proper preparation. Putting in the time, effort, work, and discipline leads to success. There are no shortcuts. Are you willing to go through the steps? Ready to put in some sweat equity? Can you forgo short-term gratification? If so, then prepare to be great! Elevator riders need not apply. #NOTG #ChessInRealLife #Preparation
