We play a team variant of chess called "Bughouse" where you can give whatever piece you capture to your teammate to use in THEIR game. As fate would have it, my two strongest players ended up on the same team. No one wanted to play them...except my two youngest players. When the game started, the younger ones played rapidly, aggressively, fearlessly. Their level of sacrifice caught their opponents off guard and, to the shock of everyone, the young ones walked away victorious.
Too often we have lost before we try because of fear. There will ALWAYS be "giants" who look to intimidate, belittle, confound and berate you into one thing: NOT believing in yourself. This is the joy of children. They have not been tainted by fear, doubt or self loathing. They meet every task with vigor and excitement. Even their "L's" are a joy because they learn and grow from them.
