Foundation

Before you learn the names of the pieces, how they set up or how they move, it is imperative to make sure your board is laid out correctly. The two boards here look quite similar is size, shape and color. They are both chess boards but only one of them is ready to set pieces upon. Whenever you sit at a board, you must make sure there is a dark square in the bottom left corner closest to you (see the darker board). If there is a light square in the bottom left corner (see the lighter board) you will need to turn the board to make sure the dark square is in the proper position. Only then are you ready to set your pieces on the board and begin your game.

Whether starting a new business, running for office, gardening, teaching, or just starting a chess game, laying a proper foundation is the key to a strong future. This consists of doing the "little things" and getting a little dirty. Doing the research, polling door to door, making phone call after phone call, last night sessions revising the plan. None of these are glamorous but are all essential in you reaching your desired goal. Checkmates are nice, but without the proper foundation, you have lost before the game has even begun. #NOTG #Chess #RealLifeLessons
