Lessons from the 64 squares...

"Plan your work, and work your plan. Hope...is NOT a strategy." -Wisdom of the Mothers

In chess, quick checkmates are possible. At novice levels, "Fools Mate" (mate in 2 moves), "Scholar's Mate" (mate in 4), & numerous traps can end a game in seconds. However, these are EXTREMELY rare occurrences at anything other than beginner levels. And any attempt to perform these mates against more seasoned opponents usually backfires in horrible ways.

Such is life. Too often we look for the "quick hit" as our solution. Planning our legacy based on lottery winnings is not a sound strategy. Though not as sexy or enticing, moving through and trusting the process has huge, long term benefits. We cannot "hope" for a good team. We must give them the tools & training to be their best. We cannot "hope" students become scholars. We must surround them with strong educators and a safe, supportive environment. Leadership sometimes calls for risk taking. But, much like a seasoned chess player, critical analysis and strategic planning are the foundations upon which STRONG leadership is built. Save the finger-crossing, rabbit's foot and 4-leaf clovers for the occasional Powerball ticket. #NOTG #ChessInRealLife #Chess #StrategicThinking #TrustTheProcess
